Moreover, signing players like Belgian international Axel Witsel, Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi and defensive rising talent Abdou Diallo proved to be a great investment. The numbers can do the talking. Thus, Borussia Dortmund won 12 of their 16 games in all competitions this season.



First defeat in Madrid

A bump in the road to silverware came on Match-day 4 of the UEFA Champions league this season. Although Borussia Dortmund managed to win the game against Atletico Madrid at home by a whopping 4-0, they lost at Madrid 2-0. This was expected for two reasons: The experience of the Madrid team and the upcoming fixture in the weekend.

Every European competition has it’s most awaited game of the season. Madrid vs Barcelona in Spain, Manchester vs Liverpool in England and so forth. In Germany, it’s called “Der Klassiker”. Borussia Dortmund will host Bayern Munich for Matchday 11 of the Bundesliga. Not only this game has an important impact on the overall morale of the players, it’s also key to increase the gap in the Bundesliga table. Thus, the Dortmund team might be 7 points clear of the Bavarian club by the end of this Match-day. For some players such as Marco Reus and Roman Burki, this is another one of these games. However, the likes of Paco Alcacer and Axel Witsel will have the first experience of this big European event. One thing is sure though, it’s going to be an exciting fixture for all players involved.
