Borussia Dortmund secure a very important win in Wolfsburg. This game comes a few days before the Klassiker. The Black and Yellow traveled to the Volkswagen Arena with confidence after last week’s win against Schalke 4-0. While Marco Reus is not yet ready to play, Lucien Favre seems to have found the best replacement in Julian Brandt.
The first half started with a very clumsy play from both teams. Soon enough, Borussia Dortmund took hold of the game with a harmless control. A burst of energy allowed Hakimi to setup Hazard in the 32nd minute. The Belgian provides a very clean cross to Raphael Guerreiro who sinks the ball for the first goal. Despite a few attempts from the home team to get back in the game, BVB players stood firm and went to the locker rooms with a vital lead. As the second half started,
Borussia Dortmund supporters were surprised by the substitution of Mats Hummels. However, they were relieved knowing that it is just a precautious measure. Emre Can filled-in for the 2014 World Cup winner and did a good job at keeping the likes of Weghorst at bay. Although Wolfsburg regained some control of the midfield, Borussia Dortmund were still the dominant team, more so after the introduction of Jadon Sancho. The Englishman setup Hakimi to score the 2nd goal for the visitors after a brilliant run through the middle. The rest of the game went uneventful except for a very harsh red card that Felix Klaus picked up after stepping on Akanji’s heel.
The Black and Yellow are surely ready to take on Bayern Munich next Tuesday, a game that should decide the team who is closer to winning the Bundesliga in this very exceptional season.
From the 2005 Borussia Dortmund, till the title winning squad in 2011 and UEFA Champions League runner up era, Mostafa was always a very passionate Black and Yellow supporter. You would often see him in Coffee shops and Bars on Matchdays. He will be wearing a BVB jersey and sipping on a German beer and most likely swearing at the referee.
