Achraf Hakimi’s Season Comes to a Premature End

Achraf Hakimi's injury

One of the most promising young talents in Europe. Achraf Hakimi has been a valuable asset for Borussia Dortmund’s attacking powerhouse this season.

The Champions League winner has to watch his teammates from the stands. Borussia Dortmund confirmed on Monday that the young Moroccan is traveling to Madrid for an operation. Furthermore, Hakimi will not be able to play for the rest of the Bundesliga title race. After replacing Abdou Diallo in the game against Wolfsburg, Achraf Hakimi had to come off himself after just 15 minutes. Later diagnosis ruled a broken metatarsal.

Aside from missing next Saturday’s Klassiker against Bayern Munich, Hakimi is facing an uphill battle to be fit again for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations next June.

Achraf Hakimi Playing Against Bayern Munich

Achraf Hakimi played 28 games in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund. His influence came in handy for Lucien Favre’s tactics as he scored 3 goals and set up 7. A versatile player, Hakimi was able to play in both the right and left back positions despite being right footed. Therefore, his absence is a blow in the final sprint towards the end of the season.

More Injuries in the Books

With Lukasz Piszczek also injured and Abdou Diallo’s state unclear, Borussia Dortmund are facing a deficiency in the left back position. Lucien Favre has a couple of options for the left back spot. Raphael Guerreiro or Marcel Schmelzer can be a very valuable option for the Klassiker next Saturday. Christian Pulisic and Maximilian Philipp are also in the injury list for the black and yellows.

Borussia Dortmund go into the clash against Bayern Munich two points ahead after the Bavarians suffered a draw in Freiburg last Saturday.
