This years transfers were in full swing for Borussia Dortmund and new coach Lucien Favre as they signed no less than 7 players. The last game against 2-tier team Greuther Fürth proved that Axel Witsel is the right man in the right time.
Borussia Dortmund signed Witsel from Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian. Achraf Hakimi’s loan from Real Madrid, Abdo Diallo’s signing from Mainz and Thomas Delaney from Bremen all made headline news this summer. But the Belgian’s efficiency has been the most keenly felt so far.
In the DFB Pokal first round, Borussia Dortmund faced Greuther Furth on monday. As the yellow blacks were loosing, Witsel’s introduction brought a new breath to the team’s midfield. At the 95 minute, Axel Witsel scored the equalizer bringing Borussia Dortmund back from an early exit.
Marco Reus scored the winner adding to his assist for Witsel’s goal. The 29-year-old praised his new teammate as he told Kicker :
“Witsel has a big character, When he came on you could see that he was exactly what we needed. We’re now very well stocked in this position.”

Witsel, who played 96 games for his country is competing with Julian Weigl, Mahmoud Dahoud and Delaney for a deep central position. His work on Monday must put him on the line-up against RB Leipzig on Sunday.
From the 2005 Borussia Dortmund, till the title winning squad in 2011 and UEFA Champions League runner up era, Mostafa was always a very passionate Black and Yellow supporter. You would often see him in Coffee shops and Bars on Matchdays. He will be wearing a BVB jersey and sipping on a German beer and most likely swearing at the referee.
