What was once 9+ points lead over Bayern Munich vanished in a couple of games. Borussia Dortmund allow Bayern to catch up. On Matchday 22, the German leaders are travelling to Nuremberg to face local team who are the 18th of the Bundesliga table.
You could just sense it throughout the game. Although Borussia Dortmund showed domination, it was only in the form of fruitless possession. Nuremberg played a tactically disciplined game. Therefore, it was Borussia Dortmund’s job to break the defense and score goals. This didn’t happen for the sole reason that chances weren’t taken.
The Team Play Was Very Dull
Boring passes, shy efforts, fear and lack of self confidence were all characteristics of Borussia Dortmund players tonight. Ground breaking talents like Jadon Sancho couldn’t perform like they used to. Marco Reus’s absence was very apparent. The Captain’s touch on the offense is missed among Black and Yellow fans.
Lucien Favre’s Tactics Inefficient
Is rotation that important? If a player is in top form, does a coach have to rest them? What happened when very important players weren’t included against Werder Bremen in the Cup game? Dortmund didn’t go through to the next round. There is also an apparent excess of confidence.
Major Changes must be done!
As the old saying goes: “You can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results”. The vision of the team and staff must stay the same. However, the strategy must change. Maybe the way the competition is approached isn’t as efficient as we thought. If you are lost, you go back to the basics. Borussia Dortmund must go back to the basics before it’s too late.
From the 2005 Borussia Dortmund, till the title winning squad in 2011 and UEFA Champions League runner up era, Mostafa was always a very passionate Black and Yellow supporter. You would often see him in Coffee shops and Bars on Matchdays. He will be wearing a BVB jersey and sipping on a German beer and most likely swearing at the referee.
