Borussia Dortmund have played one of their best games in years. They have dominated the play with accurate passing, quick recovering after losing the ball as well as tailored attacking strategy. The players were up to the task as almost every one showed a great ability to play in a team. Roman Burki is one of the highlights of this season, however, he wasn’t tested as much today.
Manuel Akanji and Dan Axel Zagadou played a very harmonious defensive game. Diallo wasn’t missed in the defense today. Akanji managed to get most of the touches on the ball and score a goal as well. On his debut, Achraf Hakimi showed that he is going to be the best fit to replace Piszczek in the right back position. His ability to pass the ball, make runs forward and cover the defense are out of this world. His pace allowed him to cross nearly 60 meters in top speed to score the 3rd goal. As for Schmelzer, he is one of the most consistent players for Borussia Dortmund in years. A very composed leader who can supply the attack and secure the defense. Delaney and Witsel were very compatible today. They showed a great degree of awareness in the midfield and succeeded at imposing Borussia Dortmund’s pace.
For the attacking powerhouse, Borussia Dortmund has so much talent in the likes of Pulisic, Philipp and Larsen. The three have shown great maturity as they all had assists. Bruun Larsen scored a sensational goal in the 10th minute. As for the team leader, Marco Reus was hands down man of the Match. The 29 years old German international orchestrated the offense and scored 2 goals and set up 1. Regarding the subs, Sancho and Weigl scored both a goal each. Kagawa helped secure the win although Dortmund were already way ahead before he was introduced.
If Borussia Dortmund continue on the same rhythm as tonight’s game, they are going to be strong contenders for this season’s Bundesliga. As time has shown, it’s not by winning games with a huge score but by being consistent that a team wins the Bundesliga title. We wish Borussia Dortmund good luck.
From the 2005 Borussia Dortmund, till the title winning squad in 2011 and UEFA Champions League runner up era, Mostafa was always a very passionate Black and Yellow supporter. You would often see him in Coffee shops and Bars on Matchdays. He will be wearing a BVB jersey and sipping on a German beer and most likely swearing at the referee.
