Running an exceptional start to their season, Borussia Dortmund didn’t lose a game yet and don’t seem about to. On Wednesday evening, the black and yellows will host the 3rd most successful team in Spain Atlético Madrid. Being in the top of the Bundesliga, Lucien Favre’s men prevailed in the two previous fixtures in the UEFA Champions league. In fact, their first game was a difficult away game against Belgian side Club Brugge which ended 0-1 thanks to a late effort courtesy of Christian Pulisic. In the second fixture though, Borussia Dortmund crushed visitors AS. Monaco 3-0. However, the settings for Wednesday night’s game are different. Atlético Madrid are a team that defends very well and has counter attacking talent in the presence of players such as Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa. Therefore, Borussia Dortmund players must attack strongly while keeping a feet in the defense area. There is no doubt that the trio of Marco Reus, Jadon Sancho and Paco Alcacer will be starting eleven. Therefore, Dortmund offense are going to provide lots of chances forward. Even so, with a finishing quality such as Alcacer’s, the German giants have the odds on their side for this fixture.

Borussia Dortmund Players Performances
Easily one of the best games this season. Borussia Dortmund players showed an outstanding composure throughout the game. With tactical awareness and great passing, they broke one of the best defenses in Europe. Lucien Favre’s coaching proved to be very effective this season and tonight’s game isn’t an exception.
Roman Burki didn’t have lost of opportunities to show how great of a goalkeeper he is. However, when he was called to action, he did provide the goods. Zagadou and Diallo played an excellent game, stopping players like Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann from being dangerous. In addition to their great passing ability, they often were the source for Borussia Dortmund’s quick counters.
Achraf Hakimi is showing that he is an outstanding player. His speed and ability to break the defense is exceptional. While he already setup the 2nd goal, he unselfishly gave away the 3rd to Sancho. Lukasz Piszczek on the other side of the pitch didn’t spare an effort to block Griezmann’s runs. He fought very well and tried to stop every attack with all he’s got.
Delaney’s game was made short by an injury. Thus, Mahmoud Dahoud gets another chance at proving his strong midfield qualities. Witsel on the other hand is still flying high with the German giants. His cool nerves on the ball allow him to play without pressure. He is the player who provides solutions. Although he is not a natural goal scorer, he scored his 4th goal for Borussia Dortmund in this season in all competion.
Although Borussia Dortmund showed a strong game, Mario Gotze didn’t make a huge impact. On the other hand, Marco Reus is orchestrating the midfield. Bruun Larsen gets subbed for not providing solutions. Jadon Sancho is in and scores again. Guerreiro is doing what Paco Alcacer was doing previously this season. Christian Pulisic didn’t make a huge impact on the game.
Borussia Dortmund seem to be in a form of their own. They are arguably sitting in the top of Europe. The black and yellow will be travelling to Berlin this weekend very confidently. Only time will tell if Borussia Dortmund will make all titles theirs this year.
