Dortmund Battle for 2-1 Win at Borussia-Park

Borussia Dortmund traveled to Borussia-Park for today’s match with Borussia Monchengladbach. The Black and Yellow hoped to notch their fifth straight win overall and fourth consecutive league victory. However, Borussia Monchengladbach had only lost one league match at home this season.

Dortmund wasted no time jumping to an 8′ lead when Thorgan Hazard used some fancy footwork to create some space in front of goal and curled his effort into the bottom left corner. Erling Haaland provided the assist.

Both teams settled in after the early goal and Dortmund held on to their one-goal lead heading into halftime. The hosts opened the second half by leveling the score following a well-executed corner routine in the 50′ minute. Haaland failed to clear his lines and Lars Stindl scored his second goal in as many matches.

Both teams battled to take the lead, and Dortmund were rewarded in the 71′ when Jadon Sancho found Hakimi bolting down the right wing. Hakimi had plenty of space and used every last inch of it to nutmeg the keeper and regain the lead for his side. Haland appeared shaken up on the play but remained in the match until Manuel Akanji replaced him in stoppage time.

The Black and Yellow defended their lead to the final whistle, propelling themselves into second on the table. Dortmund travel to Paris for the second-leg of their Champions League battle with PSG on Wednesday. They return to league competition next Saturday when they host rivals Schalke in the Revierderby.
