Following last week’s disappointing result, Dortmund had a week off to accommodate players leaving on international duty. Here at Ultimate Borussia, we decided to take the opportunity to crown our first Footballer of the Month. August featured several impressive performances from multiple players, but Jadon Sancho stood out as Dortmund’s footballer of the month.
Over the course of the month, Sancho established himself as one of Dortmund’s most valuable players. Through his first 3 league games, he assisted 3 goals and scored two of his own. Additionally, in Dortmund’s 2-0 victory over Bayern in the Supercup, Sancho scored one goal and assisted the other.
On top of his contributions to Dortmund’s scoring, Sancho has displayed tremendous skill with the ball at his feet and helped create chances for the Black and Yellow. Sancho’s talents and abilities are well-known, but his performances during the month of August were especially instrumental in Dortmund’s success. As a result, we are thrilled to name him as Dortmund’s Footballer of the Month.
Sancho wasn’t the only player to perform exceptionally well throughout August. Goalkeeper Marwin Hitz and striker Paco Alcacer earned honorable mentions. Alcacer has already tallied 4 goals in just 3 Bundesliga matches, which is good enough for third place in race for this year’s Golden Boot. Hitz replaced an injured Roman Burki and surrendered just 1 goal in 4 appearances.
Dortmund look to overtake Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga standings as Leverkusen visit Signal Iduna Park on September 14th.
