In one of the biggest games this season, the black and yellow host Borussia Mönchengladbach for Match-day 17. The two teams consider themselves bitter rivals, therefore fans expect a very tough game. And tough it was. However, Mario Götze stars as Borussia Dortmund prevail 2-1.
Injuries Before and During the Game
Borussia Dortmund started this game with the usual setup. However, the defensive trio of Diallo, Akanji and Zagadou was missing due to injury. Therefore, Lucien Favre made replacements in the shape of Toprak and Weigl. Despite this huge change, both players played a huge role in securing Borussia Dortmund’s defense throughout the game. Another injury occured during the game when Paco Alcacer was replaced with Mario Götze in the 34th minute.
Mario Götze Setup Two Goals
Paco Alcacer’s forced substitution was a tough sight for the Signal Iduna Park supporters. Yet Mario Götze’s two assists allowed Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus to score Dortmund’s two goals. The league leaders played very fluid football in the attack. The counter attacks were fast despite the opponent’s high pressure. Borussia Mönchengladbach’s only goal came from a clear hand ball that was allowed by VAR.
Borussia Dortmund Goes into Winter Break in Style
A very important win before going into the winter break brings back the 9 points difference in the top of the table. As Mario Götze stars, both Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho scored two goals to secure the win. The winter break is going to be too long for the fans who can’t wait to see their team back on the pitch. For now, the players deserve some rest to comeback and win more games in order to be crowned Bundesliga Champion this season.
