The game didn’t start very well for Lucien Favre’s men. Although they were favorites on paper, they struggled to pass the ball and often lost possession in critical midfield areas. Hoffenheim on the other hand player a very direct game as they launched quick counters as soon as they got the ball. Defensively, Borussia Dortmund looked very week and made many mistakes. One of them allowed Hoffenheim to score the first goal. Akanji was better than the last performance while Diallo couldn’t find his anchors. Schmelzer and Piszczek made some forward runs but more often than not found themselves in critical situations after Hoffenheim took possession of the ball. As for the midfield, Dahoud wasn’t charismatic enough and lost the ball more than a couple of times. Witsel didn’t manage to rule the midfield. Attacking wise, Pulisic wasa the only one to be able to keep the ball as both Reus and Wolf kept losing to Hoffenheim’s defense. The only player who was convincing for Dortmund is Roman Burki who proved that he is a world class goalkeeper. In the second half, Dortmund didn’t seem to take control of the game. Altough Hoffenheim didn’t make as much of an impact as the first one, the yellow blacks couldn’t move past the midfield. After introducing Delaney and Sancho, Borussia Dortmund started pushing forward with everything. The equalizer came after an effort from Reus to provide for Pulisic who didn’t hesitate to score. Roman Burki is arguably man of the match.
From the 2005 Borussia Dortmund, till the title winning squad in 2011 and UEFA Champions League runner up era, Mostafa was always a very passionate Black and Yellow supporter. You would often see him in Coffee shops and Bars on Matchdays. He will be wearing a BVB jersey and sipping on a German beer and most likely swearing at the referee.
